I designed our Princess Crown Pattern 2 years ago & it was recently updated with several additional sizes, crochet diagram, and conversion chart for UK terms. All you need is a small amount of worsted weigh yarn, a 3.75 mm (F) crochet hook, and knowledge of basic crochet stitches.
What a clever idea of wearing the crown over the crochet beanie! Susan B. (jojoroseanne on etsy) used our Princess Crown Pattern for finishing this beautiful braided beanie.
If you wish to wear your Princess Crown over crochet hat, you need to make the crown 1-2 sizes larger than your hat to make it fit comfortably. Here are a few easy tips:
- Use any of your favorite hat bases to make a basic beanie. It can be sc, hdc, or dc hat base.
- Lay your hat base flat to measure it’s width.
- The crown width should be slightly larger or the same as your hat width.
- Check your gauge and the size chart on page 3 of the pattern so your crown width will match the appropriate hat size.
Thank you for your beautiful crown pattern, I’ve made two today, one for my two week old granddaughter, and one for her mum, my daughter. I have some photos of the finished articles, but can’t quite work out how to send them to you

I love your crown pattern. But, I am having a problem with the picot at the top of the shell. Does the third chain go into the first of the chain three? When I do that it leaves a large hole in the top of the crown. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thank you, Karen
Hi Karen, to make a picot you need to insert the hook from right to left under the front loop & bottom vertical bar of previous st; yo & pull through all lps on the hook. Here is a photo of how to make it.
PS: You can also use any other method if you prefer to.
The points of my crown are very floppy. How did you get them to stand up? I used hobby lobby I Love This Yarn.
Hi Jane, I did not do anything special other than what the pattern calls for. Maybe your crochet tension is not tight enough? You can try using a smaller size hook if that’s the case.
Awesome! I’m going to make this for my 20 yo daughter 🙂 Can i ask how do you attach the crown to the bottom hat. I’m very new to anything but blankets! Thank you!
Hi Lisa, you are welcome! The princess hat was made by Susan Baker using my crown pattern. I would think you can just wear the crown over the hat or you can backstitch around the bottom edge if you want to secure it.
