How To Wash Crochet Slippers

Your Crochet Animal Slippers will last longer and will keep their shape if they are washed by hand. While some slippers are safe to wash on a low temperature gentle cycle, I highly encourage you not to use a washing machine for items that have dimensional add-ons, such as stuffed horns on the unicorn slippers or antlers on the moose slippers. These items need to be washed by hand only. Here are a few easy steps for hand-washing and a video demonstration as well.

  • Fill a sink/basin with warm or cold water, depending on the temperature suggested on the materials’ label.
  • Add delicate laundry detergent or dish soap. Dawn Ultra Original Dish Detergent is a great choice (affiliate link).
  • Submerge your slippers and soak them for 20-30 minutes, then gently squeeze out soapy water without wringing slippers.
  • Refill the sink/basin with fresh clean water and rinse your slippers gently. Repeat rinsing if needed.
  • Squeeze out water and make a roll using a towel to absorb excess moisture.
  • Lay your slippers flat on a clean dry towel and let them air-dry (do not tumble dry).

When I sell my handmade slippers or give them as a gift, I like adding a little note with care instructions to ensure the recipient knows how to wash them…considering the fact that slippers may need frequent washing. So I created a printable sheet with user-friendly care instructions to be used with Crochet Animal Slippers and I hope these templates will be handy for you as well. The actual size of each tag is the same as the standard size business card (3.5″ x 2″), which makes it easy to hang them together. You can also mark sizes (S, M, L) for Kids and Adults as per the size chart in the book.

Printable Tags With Care Instructions:

  1. Download and save THIS PDF FILE, then open it using the latest version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer. Do not use a browser or any other third party PDF readers.
  2. Print PDF file using the following preferences in the Print Dialog Box on your computer: Actual size / Do not scale / 100%. NOTE: AirPrint through mobile devices may not always work properly, causing printing in an inverted color scheme…so be sure to make a test-print if that’s the only option for you.
  3. Cut out your templates using paper scissors, mark the sizes, and attach the tags to your handmade slippers.
