The Pawesome Floor Runner

This is Buddy, the heart and soul of our family. He is a 14 y/o wire haired Jack Russell Terrier with a lot of personality and a big loving heart.

When Buddy was younger, his energy never ceased to amaze me…as he could run, jump, and play all day long. Since he is now a senior dog and a very slow walker, our slippery hardwood floors are not fun for him, to say the least. So I decided to make a long floor runner to keep our Bud safe and I am beyond happy to see him enjoying it.

This design is very special to me and I hope you will enjoy making it for your fur babies as well. The Pawesome Floor Runner pattern includes 2 sizes, but you can easily customize it by using fewer or more blocks.

  • Small Rug – 34″ X 24″ (made from 1 block)
  • Floor Runner – 34″ X 168″ (made from 7 blocks)

For your convenience and accurate cutting, I would recommend using a 60 degree special ruler that has at least one trimmed corner, or you can print my corner-trimming template from the pattern. Here are a few options if you do not have a similar ruler yet. I enjoy working with Tula Pink fabrics as they are so unique and vibrant. Here is a list of fabrics I used for Buddy’s floor runner (thanks for checking out my affiliate links).

Fat Quarter Shop has an awesome selection of other Tula Pink fabrics as well.

I quilted this rug with straight lines using a straight-edge quilting ruler, which can also be done with a walking foot on a regular sewing machine. If you are a confident beginner, you can finish this project easily.
